#Samuel Howe came in relation with the New-York Committee in May 1831.
#The Committee, which was in relation with La Fayette and Cooper in Paris, had a reunion in the Clinton Hall (New-York) on the 5 September 1831; Howe received the mission to bring to Europe the money collected in the USA in order to help the insurgents of the kingdom of Poland, but he reached France in October, after they had been defeated.
#At the beginning of 1832, Howe met Joachim Lelewel, president of the Polish National Committee in Paris.
#At the end of  February 1832, Howe was in Prussia, inquiring about the methods for teaching blind people and at the same time distributing money to Polish refugees; he was arrested on the 3rd of March and incarcerated (without charge) in isolation during 4 weeks ; the American ambassador in Paris was informed about his disappearance by Howe’s friend William Rives; after a press campaign, Howe was liberated and expulsed from the kingdom of Prussia (coming back in 1843, he was not allowed to go through the frontier, even for a touristic trip).
